flexibeastA couple of nights ago, experiencing severe facial pain - severe enough to have me on the floor writhing and yelling - i had to go to the Emergency Department of St Vincent's Hospital. Arriving there at around 10.30pm, it took 8+ hours for me to be seen. Fortunately, i wasn't in severe pain for all of that time - when the Nurofen Plus i had taken earlier wore off, and i ended up in agony on the floor of the ED, i was given a small amount of morphine in tablet form, which took the edge off. In the end, i was seen by a doctor who felt that it was probably some sort of infection behind my upper gums, for which he prescribed an antibiotic. We'll see how it goes.
In amongst all this drama, however, it was apparent how blessed i am. i had two caring, loving partners to look after me throughout the night; and the partner of one of my partners generously drove us all to the hospital, saving us the hassle of trying to get there via pt. Our poly situation might have been confusing to the doctor, but for me it's wonderful. As i regularly say to people: the challenges of poly - particularly in a monogamy-obsessed society - can be great, but the rewards can be greater. :-)
On a different note, i've renamed my journal: from 'hierodule' to 'flexibeast'. Although i still think of myself as a 'hierodule of Baphomet' in the sense outlined here, i never got past feeling uncomfortable with how easily it could be regarded as pretentious. Whereas i feel 'flexibeast' is more light-hearted and appropriate in a number of amusing ways; determing what those ways are is an exercise left to the reader. :-)
