The last week has been rather full-on.

Earlier on in the week, i spent a fair bit of time restructuring the HTML underlying the Pleasure Activism Australia Web site in order to make it more CSS-friendly, which in turn will make it easier to substantially change the look of the site simply by changing its stylesheet. i also added an "Events" section to the site, so that people can easily see what's happening in Australia in terms of events related to the expression or support of consensual sexual behaviour between adults. This section is already growing quite nicely; if anyone reading this knows of any events that should perhaps be listed, please let me know!

With the Web site update out of the way, i then found i had a lot of reading to do, due to lots of interesting articles coming through on the RSS feeds i subscribe to. Sometimes it seems as though the various feeds i subscribe to deliberately hold back publishing certain articles just so that they can dump them all on me at once and see how i react to being overwhelmed. :-P But i coped reasonably well, and got through them all in the end.

On Wednesday, [livejournal.com profile] sacred_harlot had an unpleasant experience with someone she had thought was a friend. It started off with a simple misunderstanding; but both [livejournal.com profile] sacred_harlot and myself felt this person's subsequent actions were somewhat less than respectful of [livejournal.com profile] sacred_harlot, both as a friend and as a human being. [livejournal.com profile] sacred_harlot was quite thrown by the whole thing: she's not sure whether she can trust this individual any more, and both [livejournal.com profile] sacred_harlot and i feel that trust is an essential foundation of friendships. So at this stage, it's not clear where the friendship is headed.

On Thursday, i was involved in a big debate on the Pleasure Activism Australia email list about this piece of artwork. Basically, i feel that it's little more than yet another piece of male-gaze-oriented porn that fails to move beyond the "sex work = violence/death" narrative dominating contemporary discourse around sex work. i thus feel that it misses an opportunity to explore at least some of the many other aspects of sex workers' lives: aspects which are perhaps not as visually dramatic, but which may often be much more significant for the workers themselves. The URL for the piece was also posted to the IUSW email list; and none of the sex workers there had anything positive to say about it either.

Finally, on Saturday [livejournal.com profile] sacred_harlot, [livejournal.com profile] naked_wrat, [livejournal.com profile] anark1 and myself were supposed to go to the Melbourne Club Cuddly meetup; but unfortunately, my system chose this day to finally collapse in a heap, and i ended being in a bad place, physically and emotionally. So i was in no fit state to go out socialising; and i really needed [livejournal.com profile] sacred_harlot and [livejournal.com profile] naked_wrat to be with me. So all four of us simply stayed at home and had a quiet evening watching Traffic, one of my favourite movies.

[livejournal.com profile] naked_wrat continues to look for new housing for us. There doesn't seem to be much around at the moment that's suitable; but i'm hoping that the situation will improve as the end of the year approaches and many people, particularly students, move out of their current accommodation. We'll see what happens.

I tend to agree with you about the 'Whore' piece - it's (not particularly good) fashion/glamour photography using the 'frisson' of prostitution and sexual violence. I wouldn't glorify it with the term 'art'.

The only thing that was interesting to me was a technical point - I liked the way the images went dark so you had only a glimpse of them at their full brightness; and I liked the few that had the bright backlight shining into the viewers' eye.

Hey there Gorgeous,

I agree what a full on week! I am looking very forward to enjoying a less full on week when you come to stay again, I think that we need to enjoy some intentional down time together, as often our shared life has indeed been extremely full on, both in recent and not so recent times! >:D<

The events section of the PAA site looks awesome, you have done extremely well Love - very proud of you, mwa :-*

Heh, I guess at least you have something to show for your part of the very full on week, I just feel sad about mine, but I am sure that there are lessons embedded there somewhere, and they will be reward enough when I discover what they are ezactly :-P

Love you lots Darling, very much looking forward to sharing a less hectic space in time :-D

Blessed Be,
Sacred Harlot xxx.

Yes indeed!

Oh love! *hugs* But i think i know how you feel. Work that doesn't have physically tangible outcomes often leaves me with less of a sense of 'accomplishment' than work that does - even though, by some abstract measure, the actual accomplishment involved in the former may be greater than that involved in the latter.

just watched that piece of (I can't even insult the word "art" by using it in this context). sick to my stomach now. What is wrong with that man? Besides misogyny and narcissism, of course, oh, and a pathetic lack of anything original or noteworthy to say, lamentably coinciding with the pompous certainty that he deserves an audience. Yeah, I pretty much want to kick him in the shins and spit in his face, and for me, those are low, petty blows...indicative of his monumental insignificance and my desire to make the weasel cry.

I didn't watch the whole thing, because it looked like just the same old regurgitated shit, only without the resources for good lighting. Aside from the unoriginal subject matter, it was just bad photography. Whatever.

Yeah, but regurgitated from what? ;-)

thing is, though, after the bulk of it (which is as dull and unremarkable as you say) is past, this pointless pseudo-arthouse-porn drivel suddenly morphs into a snuff film. That's what makes this so disturbing and awful.

Forgive the fly-by comment, but hi and you sound awesome and plus I've seen you around on my other friends' journals and such. May I friend you? :D

I feel your pain on house-hunting. Am searching mindlessly at the moment as well.

You certainly may. :-) And i've friended you in return. :-)

Yes, i heard from [livejournal.com profile] cheshire_bitten that you are currently house-hunting - 'tis indeed a joy to be savoured. :-P Are you looking for a place in a particular area?

Lately we've just been looking for anything we can get. Jess would ideally love to live in Box Hill, but really we're happy to be anywhere that has a train station and a place to buy milk and bread. Unfortunately the being-near-transport is vital 'coz of my CFS, and it really makes finding a decent place difficult. :(
