So just how important do people think it is to ensure that they are not 'obese'?

This important:
The 4,000 respondents in varying numbers between 15% and 30% also said they would rather walk away from their marriage, give up the possibility of having children, be depressed, or become alcoholic rather than be obese. Five percent and four percent, respectively, said they would rather lose a limb or be blind than be overweight.

[ Some people would give life or limb not to be fat ]

I'm medically obese (via BMI) and it's not so bad. Then again BMI is such a useless measurement that it skews obesity statistics and brings about loads of health scares.

I would give my uterus to be thin, or fat, what ever works for you, please take my uterus away.

*hmms*If we make them blind would that help them not realise they're obese? *innocent look*

Yeah, technically i'm just into the BMI 'obese' range myself . . . . others have made better critiques of the BMI than i could do here, but i do think that, apart from anything else, the BMI probably wasn't designed with trans people in mind. :-P

Personally, i'd like these people to live blind for a month or so, and then ask them what they'd prefer . . . .

BMI wasn't designed with all sorts of body types in mind. Not just trans people. People who live up to BMI standards often do so through serious undereating. It's a useless measurement.

yeah, me too. as far as i'm concerned the mammalian female reproductive system is proof positive that there's no such thing as 'intelligent design'.

given that something like 1/2 of the population is technically overweight, I expect to start seeing piles of severed limbs everywhere I go ... ;)

These people don't know what they are missing! Life is too short to be fat-phobic. I'm "fat" and confident, attractive, intelligent, happy! I feel sorry for people like that and glad my friends have a greater sense of perspective.

I'd do almost anything to be thinner (except maybe eating less and exercising :)

No no no, it's actually proof of Intelligent Design: it represents God's continuing punishment of women for Eve's sins . . . . :-P

But OH NOES, that will create more FATTIES because we all know that THEY can't resist eating meat, WHATEVER its source. :-P

Heh, yep. Another example of our society's tendency to say "i want X, but i'm not willing to work for it!"
