Earlier today i came across a marvellous essay by C.S. Lewis:

The Inner Ring

in which he discusses social inclusion and exclusion, and people's desire to be a part of particular 'In' groups. As someone who is rarely in any "In" group apart from the group which includes my partners and two or three closest friends, i found the essay fascinating.

I think I would be happy to feel a part of any group at all.

*nod* i used to feel that way myself; but over time, i've discovered that the costs of such a belief increasingly outweigh the benefits. i'm yet to find an "In" group that can offer me more than what i would have to give up in order to be a member.
