i know hot Christians. There are a number of them on my f-list. But any Christian who follows this advice would rank pretty low on my 'hotness' scale and pretty high on my 'creepiness' scale. Seriously, does doing this sort of thing ever win any converts? Or at least, any converts who didn't already find cultthink attractive?

That's seriously wrong...

On her FAQ page:

"What happens if the person I am dating becomes a Christian?
Praise God!!! That hasn't happened to me yet (still just planting seeds!), but you have two choices: Dump him and start dating a better-looking nonbeliever... or keep dating the person you're with now. I'd just see how hot he (or she) is and base the decision on that. The Bible says "man looks at the outward appearance; God looks at the heart." We're definitely not God, so just decide if your date is hot enough for you (after praying about it, of course). "

Dump him and start dating a better-looking nonbeliever.... what a superficial bitch...

That's actually the section that convinced me that the site is a parody. It's not as over the top as the Westboro Baptist website, but I think she's just trying to sell some funny t-shirts.

Heh, no, i've been following reddit for quite a while now. Can't remember where i first found out about it - Wired, perhaps? Thinking more about it, i might have first discovered it when there was a hoo-ha over Reddit shifting from Lisp to Python . . . .

And yes, "the date from hell" - "Hell is other people". :-)

Not that i'm aware of . . . . although sadly, i've been fooled before. :-(

years ago a nice young guy from work asked me out. i thought it was an ordinary date, but he took me to this weird religious stage-show thingy run by his church, which ended up with a pentecostal-style alleluia-fest with people going all loopy praising the lord and speaking in tongues. it was very scary and i ran away as soon as i could. he pestered me a bit at work trying to convince me of the joys of christianity, but he must have decided i was a lost cause 'cos he gave up pretty quickly. or maybe i just wasn't hot enough ;)

I've had a couple of christians wanting to date me BECAUSE I'm an atheist... One wanted to convert me, the other had been in a long term with one of the real fruitloop christians and found atheism a welcome relief.

Perhaps you were TOO hot: did your eyes start glowing red? Grow horns in the top of your skull? Cloven hooves? You do read Richard Dawkins after all ;)

Yep, i can understand that . . . . moving in spiritually-oriented circles often means that one gets exposed to a lot of particularly muddled thinking1 (#note1), and it can be refreshing not to have to put up with people claiming that their theology is SCIENTIFIC because it fits with STRING THEORY and is just as VALID a scientific theory as anything else because it's not yet been PROVEN to be wrong. Yeah, right - just like science hasn't yet definitively proved that the tooth fairy doesn't exist. :-P

i'm actually planning to write a post on this very issue in the very near future . . . .

1 (). At least in contrast to my own thinking, which i would regard as being merely mildly muddled. :-)

Looking forward to the post.

Heh, so had you given him any indication that you might be in particular need of salvation?

When i was staffing stalls for social/political issues, i often faced a combination of (a) people assuming that i was a religious nut; and (b) actual religious nuts trying to convert me to Christianity. (i was an atheist at the time.) i never found an adequate way of dealing with (a), but i used to attempt to deal with (b) by quoting such things from the Bible as the genocide in Deuteronomy 3. :-)
