Last night saw two anti-Jewish incidents in the Melbourne suburb of Balaclava. This suburb is located amidst the most Jewish areas of Melbourne, which makes these incidents particularly disturbing, given that Jewish people are hardly 'outsiders' in these areas. Of course, there's insufficient information at the aforementioned linked to guess what the motivation for the attack might be - whether, for example, it was motivated by hatred of Jewish people in general, or hatred of Israeli policy in the Middle East. In any case, such attacks are a sad testament to our society's decreasing tolerance of (let alone respect for) diversity.

sigh, melbourne get more like sydney with every passing year :( It's not even like the melbourne jewish community causes much trouble at all (afaik).
