Please support the strike against SUP's decision to no longer allow the creation of Basic LJ accounts:
ONE DAY CONTENT STRIKE

For one day, Friday, March 21, make no posts. Make no comments. Let there be NO new content added to LJ.

SUP obviously does not realize that Basic users have given something of value to them, that it is content that drives the site.

So, for one 24-hour period, from midnight GMT to midnight GMT, let's see how many people we can get to pledge to contribute NO CONTENT.

This will create a permanent downward spike in the daily-posts statistics, a permanent reminder of the power of the userbase.

SPREAD THE WORD!

I will do it... and pass the word on too!

I started as a basic user, like so many others.

What's Sup?

Okay okay, I'm leaving myself WIDE OPEN for a bad joke here, but I HAVE to ask this question.

What's SUP?

And why should I give a shit about it? It is another one of BS Bush's idiot "Pinky and the Brain" style ideas to take over the world?

Er, well, not sure whether you do know who SUP are and were simply punning, or where you're viewing my post, but i actually made the acronym 'SUP' a link to the Wikipedia entry about SUP. They're the company that now own LiveJournal.

Should you give a shit about it? Well, the reason i give a shit about it is because, like many, i'm not fussed about companies that treat their customers and/or potential customers badly, and for once, i've got the opportunity to participate in an action that i believe will clearly tell a company this. More specifically, i feel that it's pretty unpleasant behaviour on the part of SUP to begin eliminating the category of LJ accounts that is significantly responsible for making LJ worth visiting and thus, for many people, worth paying for. So i believe it's a good idea to remind SUP about who generates the content that enables their profits.

Okay...I have to do the joke...

Not much.
What's SUP with you?

:p

Actually, I welcome an excuse not to post for a day. I spend WAY too much time and energy here.

I have RL friends I have told about LJ and how you can have these free accounts, but I doubt any of them will join now. And if my basic is taken away then I guess I'll have a lot more free time on my hands.

Or maybe not. There are lots of other sites out there.

I have to say that this seems to becoming a common practice on the net...kind of a bait and switch. Free for now, until we get you hooked... then.....
